Recently I noticed the tutorials on the site never showed how to disable the sleep function on a Macro build. Generally when you install your speaker, if installed on the rear of the unit you risk activating the sleep trigger due to it being a magnetic activation.

I figured out how to bypass this a few years ago and apparently never added it to the Macro tutorial. Please see the new updates to the end of the Macro Tutorial. It’s optional but highly recommended :D.

Once I build an XL again I will update that tutorial, but the process is largely the same.

In other news I am slowly working on shells, though humidity has made painting quite the adventure.

If all goes to plan then I’ll have Macros by the summer

Another thing I’ve seen a lot of lately is other general tech support questions around the Macro. I’m going to put together some more tutorials around general break fix items on the Macro (and by extension the DS), it’s also been around six years since I made the original tutorials so I should probably spruce those up as well.

Long time no talk! As with previous years I am again doing an Extra-Life stream this year, and with that comes an Extra-Life Macro Raffle.

Unfortunately last year’s stream was fraught with issues as Extra-Life was DDOSed by jerks. Because of that we were unable to hit the goal of $4,000 (though we got very close!). Hopefully this year will be smoother :D.

The raffle this year is a bit different. Due to COVID, me moving, and just a lot of personal things going on I am initially raffling one Macro, where you choose the color (based on availability). If we hit the goal of $2500 I’ll add a second Macro. All details are on the Extra-Life page, but lets go into it here too!

If we hit $4000 then I’ll also raffle off a Switch!

How to Enter

My stream will be running starting at 9am EST on November 7th. Please wait until the actual stream to donate, as I really helps boost morale during the stream itself!

Every $5 donation to the Extra-Life campaign counts as one entry into the raffle. Once you donate please either email me the copy of your donation (gameboymacro@gmail.com). Or message me a screenshot on the Facebook page.

Colors Available

Rather than pre-built units, I have a few finished shells that you will be able to choose from, then I will build the unit and ship it out! You are perfectly welcome to mix and match the colors if you’d like. The first winner will get to choose their color, then once they choose I will reach out to the second winner (if a second is raffled).

I’m not quite sure why, but I’ve had a HUGE influx of traffic over the past few days. It’s been great to see a lot of renewed interest in the Macro and I’m glad a lot of people are out there trying to build their own and/or interested in buying one. The be honest, this site is a bit neglected as I do most of my communication and posts on the Facebook page. I wanted to get a post up to cover some of the main questions I’ve been receiving from people over the past few days 🙂

How do I buy a Macro?

I periodically will sell units as I have the time to build them. Unfortunately my free time is very limited as I have a busy work schedule (which is only made worse by the current pandemic situation). Right now I don’t have any units for sale, but I should have some by late June.

When will you have Macros for sale?

If everything goes according to plan I should be able to finish molding more shells by the end of June. So hopefully late June/early July.

Do you have a Patreon/Kickstarter/etc.

No, I don’t really see a need to do anything like that, as Macros are not my sole source of income and I’m not a content creator. I don’t really have any special incentives for anyone who wants to donate to me. Instead donate to your local animal shelters 😀

How can I stay up to date on progress?

The best way to stay in the loop is to follow the Facebook page and/or sign up for the mailing list!

I do also post on the site, as you can see, but the Facebook page is where I’m the most active!

Can I preorder a Macro?

Unfortunately I do not offer preorders. Since I can’t guarantee turnaround times for builds I don’t feel comfortable taking money and having someone wait for an indefinite amount of time to get their product.

All of that being said, I really appreciate the interest, and I implore everyone to try out building a Macro! I put these tutorials out there five+ years ago to encourage everyone to try their hand at it :). It’s great seeing interest even five years later.

I’ll spend some time this weekend overhauling the site and making it a bit more friendly to new visitors as well. I do also plan on making a video tutorial for both units once I have the time, and exploring some other Macro options (DSi, 3ds, etc). I will be spinning up production of molding new shells very soon, and will be putting out a poll for colors that people want to see.

At the moment I’m planning on sticking to the most popular colors I’ve sold in the past, which is generally:

• Famicom Red
• Cobalt Blue
• Acid Green
• Purple (I don’t think I ever had a fancy name for this one)
• Gold
• Black
• White

My prices are generally $160 for the standard DS Lite unit, $175 for stereo sound, and $130 for the XL version. I put probably 10 hours into each one when you take the case work into account.

Just like last year I will be raffling off a few Macros! This time around I am raffling four Macros. Rules will be the same as last year. Each donation for $5 counts for one entry in the raffle. You can certainly stack entries, eg: $20 = 4 entries. Once you donate simply message me on facebook or email me at gameboymacro@gmail.com with a screenshot of your donation (or forward the email) and which color(s) you’d like to be entered for. For whatever reason lately I’ve been getting a pretty large influx of questions about Macros. I’m overall awful at social media, so sorry if it takes me a while to reply! I just wanted to assure you all that Macros are coming soon. I have some parts on the way and will be building out a few units pretty soon.

Right now, as most of you know, I modify the cases by hand, which takes a VERY long time. 10+ hours per case if you include the painting. I have a couple of 3D printers (Prusa I3s) that don’t really fit the bill for printing cases, so that’s out. I’ve been toying around with the idea of picking up an SLA printer (Form or similar) and messing around with some 3d printed cases as I have a few models I built up. I’d love to hear some feedback on that, though it’s probably a ways off.

In other news, I’ve messed around with a few different mods to the Macros that I may add as a standard feature if I can get them to a consistent point. More on that later :P.
